The Royal Hotel, Auchtermuchty, Fife

The Royal Hotel located in Auchtermuchty, Fife has been the subject of ghost sightings by staff and locals. The hotel itself which is built on the site of an old abbey and burial ground comprises of 4 guest rooms, function suite, main bar area, and a 2 bedroom flat.
In the late 1970’s a former owner of the hotel had commited suicide in one of the guest rooms, the room itself has been the site of some strange activity according to staff. There has also been sightings in the main hotel hallway and a presence felt in the upstairs flat.

The Investigation
On our arrival at the hotel we were greeted by owner Jeff Edmonson who gave us a tour of the hotel. We commenced the investigation at 8.00pm by taking EMF readings, temperature readings and photographs around the hotel. We detected some abnormal temperature fluctuations in two of the guest rooms and also readings of up to 1miiligauss on the EMF meter in guest rooms 1 & 4 where there was no apparent source. We experienced a chilling and oppressive atmosphere in room 4, which we later found out was the site of the afore mentioned suicide. We then interviewed the staff members and locals who had had strange experiences in the hotel.

Going from all of the information that we had gathered, we decided to begin by locking off a digital night vision camcorder in guest room 4 with a trigger object while we carried out a séance in guest room 1 with another digital night vision camcorder, EMF meter, infrared thermometer and digital voice recorder.

Room 1 proved to be very quiet during the séance, the only events that we picked up on our equipment was a strange flash picked up on our camcorder. Having spent about an hour in room 1 we decided to carry the séance on into room 4, armed with 2 camcorders and the rest of our equipment. We experienced much activity in room 4 capturing many orbs on camcorder, strange noises, flashes and a very chilling atmosphere. At 12 midnight we moved our investigation to the bar area and main hotel hallway where we chatted with staff and customers until the bar closed to allow us to begin. On this occasion we did not pick up any activity in the main bar area, however we did capture some strange flashes on camcorder in the main hotel hallway before packing up our equipment.
