Brief History
Previously known as the Kelvinside Parish Church, the Oran Mor (Gaelic for ‘Heavenly Voice’) was built in 1862. History books have shown that the church was built on top of an old mine shaft. The church was ministered by Pastor Walter Ross Taylor from 1868 until his death in 1907 and it is believed that his body may be one of the two bodies interred in the walls of the building. The building was also used as a Bible Institute but nowadays it houses a nightclub, bar and brasserie. The building has had many unexplained events, including presences being felt, chairs being moved and the office door being found open several times, after being not only closed but locked by the manager the night before.

The Investigation
This investigation was shorter than normal, we plan to go back to the Oran Mor for a second visit in a bid to further our findings in June or July 2006.
The Venue (Nightclub)
Temp – 17 degrees
The investigation began in the nightclub area which is located in the lower part of the building. In the days when the building was used as a church, this is where the body would be lying in state before a funeral. The team took base readings and still digital photographs. Several light anomalies were detected in this area using digital still cameras. We asked for any spirits present to communicate with us. Many unexplained noises and bangs were heard by the team for m,various areas in the room, although they did not seem to be in direct response to any of our questions. We continued the vigil asking a series of questions and recording using digital voice recorders, several clear voices were picked up and In response to us asking for a name, we recorded the name ‘Fraser’ (see EVP File 1). A couple of the team felt particularly emotional during this vigil, and in fact were reduced to tears, for reasons which we could not explain, these feelings came over them suddenly during the vigil. There were also cold spots felt by team members during this vigil and this was verified using digital thermometers as the temperature dropped by almost 3 degrees.
Just before leaving this area, a few members of the team heard what sounded like a small stone being thrown at one of the metal support poles, on further investigation a temperature drop of 2 degrees was detected around the area where the noise came from, EMF readings were normal. We could not find any debris on the floor that could have caused the noise. After this vigil, we left a camcorder locked off in this area. Upon examining our camcorder footage, we discovered that we had picked up several interesting light anomalies (see Video File 1), in particular, what seems to be a string of flashing lights, unfortunately on transfering this clip to the web it has lost alot of quality and the lights are difficult make out, we therefore opted to omit this clip from our report. Several loud bangs were also picked up by the locked off camcorder (see Video File 2, speakers required). We spent futher time investigating around this area, but no further events occured.
Auditorium
Temp – 25 degrees
The team then continued to the auditorium for the next vigil. A camcorder was set up on the high balcnoy above the auditorium to give is almost a plan view of the room. Base readings and digital photographs were taken and the motion sensors were set up. We picked up some light anomalies on our still photographs but no movement was detected using the motion sensors, which covered only a small part of the room.. The team then decided to try a filmed séance, during which, almost everyone in the team experienced cold drafts, being touched, or a feeling that there was something moving around the table, this continued for quite some time. There were several loud noises which were heard by the team which were also captured on the digital camcorders. Using voice recording equipment, we also managed to pick up several clear responses to our questions including the name ‘Fraser’ again, which we found particularly interesting. After the vigil was finished, a locked off camera was left in this area to attepmpt to pick up some activity in our absence.. Although the team had moved to an area two floors below this room, several loud noises were picked up on the camcorder which seemed to be very close. We also picked up some light anomalies on the camcorder footage.
Bar
Temp – 24 degrees
We then moved to the bar area for our next vigil. Base readings and digital photographs were taken and again we set up motion sensors around one part of the room. We picked up some light anomalies on our still photographs but no movement was detected using the motion sensors. The team decided to try using the communication board for this vigil, but we did not get any noticeable movement through the board. The team felt that this area was very quiet and did not appear to have much of an atmosphere to it on this particular occasion. No unusual activity was detected on our digital camcorders in this area during the vigil. As this area seemed so quiet we decided to move on to our next room.
Private Dining Room
Temp – 23 degrees
Our last vigil of the night took place in the private dining room. The team took base readings and still digital photographs. Again we managed to pick up several light anomalies on the photographs. The team ran 4 different digital voice recorders simultaneously including one connected to a low frequency microphone and found that we were getting many clear responses (see EVP File 2, EVP File 3, EVP File 4, EVP File 5 & EVP File 6).The voice recorders were well spread out over the room and the responses that we got appeared to be stronger and louder on one particular recorder which was located near the front of the room. Several members of the team reported feeling cold spots in various parts of the room during this vigil. No unusual activity was detected on our digital camcorders during this part of the investigation.
Summary
The Oran Mor is a fantastic location and appears to have quite a lot of strange activity happening on a regular basis. Our EVP experiments seemed to be the most succesful part of this short investigation. We plan to go back to the Oran Mor in June or July 2006 to see if we can further our findings.
We would like to thank the owners and staff of the Oran Mor for their warm welcome and excellent hospitality.
