6 Digital Night Vision Camcorders, 3 EMF meters, Trifield Natural EM Meter, 8 Digital Cameras, Infrared Thermometers, Laser Thermometer, Two Way Radios, Infrared Motion Sensor Kit, Dowsing Rods, Infrared lights, Digital Voice Recorders including 4 x Panasonic RR-DR60, Analogue Voice Recorders, Parabolic Microphone, Low Frequency Microphones, Communication Board, Trigger Objects, Wireless Night Vision Camera, TV/Video Combi, Laptop PC.

Brief History
The mills of New Lanark were built, over 200 years ago by David Dale. The village was managed by Dale’s son-in-law, Robert Owen, who provided decent homes, fair wages, free healthcare, education and the world’s first nursery school. New Lanark has been carefully restored as a living community which opens its doors to visitors. There have been many reported sightings in various areas of the village. Figures have been seen and presences have been felt by staff, visitors and guests alike.

Mill Workers House

Temp – 22 degrees

We began our vigils in the Mill Workers house. The team split up into teams to cover all the rooms in the house. Before beginning the vigil we were getting readings on the EMF meter of up to 7 milligauss, which we were unable to find any reasonable explanation for. We sat quietly in the darkness and asked for any spirits to communicate with us. We also ran voice recorders and took photos as well as filming the vigil using camcorders. We captured several voices during this vigil. We then decided to ask a series of qustions whilst using our voice recorders. We asked if there was any spirits present and if so could they tell us their name, we got the reply “yes Arthur”, click here to listen. We then asked if the spirit could make itself known to us and we got a voice saying “I can”, click here to listen. We seemed to be getting lots of timely answers to our qustions although many of the voices captured were very distorted and difficult to make out. We captured some very faint light anomalies on camcorders during this vigil. We also captured several light anomalies on still photographs during this vigil. One of our team members saw a flash of light in the corridor, but we were unable to find any explanation for this. Two of our team members felt very hot during this vigil, as though their faces were burning although the temperature remained constant, we cannot find any explanation for this. The atmosphere in the Millworker's House felt exremely flat and we therefore decided to continue our investigation in Robert Owen's house.

Robert Owen’s House

Basement Temp – 21 degrees
Ground Floor Temp – 22 degrees
First Floor Temp – 15 degrees
Second Floor Temp – 17 degrees

We split up into two groups. Lisa, Paul, Dave, Stewart, Frances and Lynn set up in the basement using camcorders, digital cameras and voice recorders. We asked out for communication but did not receive any audible or visible response. We did not pick up anything unusual on the camcorders but we did capture several light anomalies on the still photos taken randomly during this vigil.

The other group, Mark, Nic, Andrew, Will and George, set up on the ground floor for a vigil using camcorders, digital cameras and voice recorders. We asked out for communication but did not receive any audible or visible response.

We decided to take a break and leave some camcorders and voice recorders locked off in different areas of the house. The camcorder footage contained some brilliant flashes of light on the staircase and there were also some unexplainable movement or shuffling noises picked up. The voice recorders picked up the sound of crockery being moved and also what seems to be a female or childs voice shouting "stop", click here to listen, the second file sounds like a female speaking, click here to listen. During this time the entire house was empty and locked.

After the break, the whole team got together and headed to the upper floors of the house which are closed to the public. Two of our team members experienced an unexplainable sensation of dizziness upon entering the top floor. Another team member caught a brief glimpse of a white shape moving across the room. We did not manage to capture this on camcorder. We attempted a séance in a bid to induce to some activity in one of the attic rooms but we did not seem to be getting any response at all. We did manage to capture some light anomalies on our digital still cameras in the top part of the house.

We returned to the ground floor for our final vigil in this area. We asked for communication from the spirits, but again it seemed like we were getting no response to any of our prompts. We decided to move the investigation to the main hotel area of New Lanark, formerly Mill 1. Unhappy at the lack of atmosphere and with the feeling of unfinished business, Mark and Nic decided to stay behind in the house to try some more sound recordings while the rest of the group moved our equipment to the main hotel. Mark and Nic decided to attempt another question and answer session before leaving Robert Owen's House and several voices were picked up on the voice recorders. After asking for a name, the response “Robert” was captured, click here to listen, and then after asking for confirmation of the name, the response was “Robert Owen”, click here to listen, on hearing this voice we were all quite taken back, a fantastic capture indeed! We had asked if someone wanted us to leave the building and got the response “yes, get out of here”, click here to listen. We also picked a voice saying "tell me" during a random recording, click here to listen.
No unusual readings were detected using EMF and Tri Field meters during our vigils in Robert Owen’s House.

Hotel (Formerly Mill 1) - Basement

Temp – 19 degrees

We moved to the basement area of the hotel. This area has allegedly been very active in the past. We set up for our vigil using camcorders, digital cameras, voice recorders, EMF meters and Trifield meter. We picked up some very unusual light anomalies on still cameras and also on the camcorders. One photograph in particular shows a strange light streak across one of our photographs, we could not find a source for this, click here to view. The light streak also appears in one follow up shot but not in any other subsequent shots taken with the same camera in the same area. Two of our team members who took photos at the same time seemed to have captured the same light anomaly from two different angles. We captured several voices many of which seemed to be very angry shouts and screams. No unusual activity was detected using the EMF and Trifield meters during this vigil and the temperature reamined constant. After spending some time in the basement we decided to move our investigation to the hotel reception area.

Hotel Reception Area

Temp – 21 degrees

We decided to end our investigation in the hotel reception area as this has also been reported to be quite a paranormally active area. We decided to try using the communication board to see if we could get any response. There was no notable movement on the board, however there did seem to be some unexplainable activity happening in a disabled toilet located next to the reception area as we attempted communication. As the door to the toilet was open the entire time, we could see the light come on for no apparent reason. The light then began to flash on and off for several minutes. The flashing then stopped, the light staying on continuously, then the light went off and stayed off. On investigating this we could find no plausible explanation. We can verify that all team members were in the reception area and in full view of everyone else. We also captured many light anomalies on still cameras during this time. No unusual activity was detected using the EMF and Trifield meters and the temperature around the area remained constant.

Summary

There definitely seemed to be a lot of unexplainable happenings at New Lanark World Heritage Site. We got EMF and Trifield readings, lots of light anomalies on camcorders and still images and lots of apparent voices. We feel that although things seemed to be very quiet at times, we still managed to capture some very interesting evidence. We have no doubt that New Lanark would be well worth returning to for a future investigation.

New Lanark World Heritage Site is a great location that has had many reported ghost sightings and experiences. We would love to return at some point in the future to carry out further investigation.
