Mary King's Ghost Fest 2009 Results - Ghost Finders Scotland

Ghost Finders Scotland conducted two nights of investigation during Mary King's Ghost Fest 2009. This represented a slightly more diminished role in comparison to the eight nights of investigation that the team conducted during the previous year's Ghost Fest. It was a team decision to have a little bit of respite this year. The team all hope to be back bigger and better for Ghost Fest 2010!

Gilmerton Cove
Gilmerton Cove was the first port of call for the team on Wednesday 13th May. There were a number of different experiments conducted during this relatively short investigation, spanning a three hour period. Information from the Spiritualist Medium walkround has been documented and will be compared to the results of the scientific/objective experiments. On the whole the evening was rather quiet in terms of suspected physical paranormal activity in terms of visual phenomena or atmospheric anomalies. The EVP experiments once again appearing to be the most succesful. The full raw audio files recorded during the investigation can be located at the bottom of this page (please see the EVP section below). We would like to thank everyone who attended this short investigation.

Mary King's Close
On the final night of Mary King's Ghost Fest 2009, Sunday 17th May, the Ghost Finders team were to be found knee deep in experiments at Mary King's Close along with 28 eager and attentive guests. A wide array of experiments were set up to maximise the chances of detecting possible paranormal activity in terms of visuals, audibles and atmospheric changes.

There were a wide range of personal experiences reported by the guests throughout the night in various parts of the close. These ranged from physical sensations of being touched and sensations of feeling suddenly cold. One guest reported the feeling of hands pushing down on his shoulders. These experiences remain subject to many possible contributing factors and although they cannot be considered to be objective proof, no matter how inexplicable, they will be recorded and used as a comparison for future reported personal experiences in an attempt to establish possible patterns.

In terms of the more objective experiments, the EVP provided much in the way of data to analyse. There were a number of possible voices heard throughout the initial playback of the audio files. These files are now available for download at the bottom of this page (please see the EVP section below). In terms of possible physical activity, an interesting occurence took place in The Plague Room. Four coins were set up as trigger objects by a member of the Ghost Finders team along with two guests. the room was vacated for a period of twenty minutes and on reviewing this experiment it was observed by a Ghost Finders team member and two guests that three of the four coins had moved. Nobody had access to the room for the duration of this experiment and everyone was accounted for during the twenty minute period.

One more intriguing pattern from the investigation emerged in the form of consistent reports of whistling being heard. This was reported both in Chesney's House during the EVP experiments and in the Ghost Room during two separate groups at different times. It was also heard during the later EVP epxeriments conducted at the top of the main close. It was a general perception that the whistling was occurring 'nearby' in all cases without being able to pinpoint the exact source. We can certainly verify that there was nobody wandering around the close all night whistling and that everyone present in the close was accounted for during our experiments.

EVP
We strongly encourage partcipants to download the the results of the audio experiments from both Gilmerton Cove and Mary King's Close. We would very much like to hear your perception of what is being heard in these files and will use your feedback for research purposes. If enough people email us, we will report the findings on our website. We do recommend the use of headphones when listening, however please be aware that some of the audio can be rather loud. Please use a low volume to avoid the risk of damaging your hearing. Basic software for filtering the audio can be downloaded free at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. Please email us at mark@ghostfinders.co.uk with any suggestions or questions that you may have.

The Ghost Finders team would like to thank everyone who attended the experiments at Mary King's Ghost Fest 2009 and hope that you will return next year when we hope to run more experiments as part of our committed research.
