Mary King's Ghost Fest - May 2008

The Ghost Finders team conducted eight nights of scientific experiments during Mary King's Ghost Fest 2008. These ranged from general paranormal investigations to more focused EVP experiments and were conducted in four different locations within Edinburgh that all have a history of suspected paranormal activity. The locations were Mary King's Close, Camera Obscura & The Ragged School, Edinburgh Playhouse and The Covenanter's Prison.

A wide range of suspected phenomena was reported throughout the experiments by the guests who attended. Among these were reports of apparitions being seen, stones being thrown, bangs and footsteps being heard, guests experiencing sudden nausea symptoms and extreme cold spots and breezes being felt among many other things. Of course these experiences are subjective and without being recorded there is no way to fully analyse them to attempt to find explanations. Interestingly, some of the reports tied in with past suspected paranormal occurences and some intriguing patterns emerged.

From the Ghost Finders team's scientific point of view and for our ongoing paranormal research, the focus was on attempting to record suspected phenomena on filming equipment, audio recording equipment and equipment designed to alert us to atmospheric changes in the immediate environment. The results of the scientific experiments were varied throughout the eight nights and the best results came through the audio experiments in the form of Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP). EVP experiments were conducted during every part of the Ghost Finders team's involvement in Mary King's Ghost Fest 2008 and four nights were dedicated specifically to experimenting with this phenomena. Not only were these experiments focused on each of the four locations, but focused on fully testing the phenomena itself.

The results over the week proved to be absolutely fascinating with some very interesting over all patterns emerging. Many of anomalous voices that were recorded seemed to be in direct response to questions asked and in particular, names, dates and other verifiable information was recorded in direct response. One example of the many fascinating patterns that emerged was over the four nights that audio experiments were conducted in Chesney's House of Mary King's Close. The results appeared to be increasingly louder and apparently angrier as the nights went on. The words "get out" were recorded in Chesney's House on no fewer that 6 occasions over different nights.

A total of 210 audio files were recorded throughout the week of the ghost fest and all of these are available for download below. The files have been categorised into the specific dates and locations that they were recorded. These are original files and have not been filtered in any way. We have intentionally not named any of the files to allow you to maintain your own perception of what is being said as part of our ongoing research.
