Brief History
The Coylet Inn dates back to 1650 when it was used as a coaching inn on the main road from Glasgow to Dunoon. Previously named the Loch Eck Inn, it boasts stunning views over Loch Eck. The Inn has been subject to many past ghostly sightings including a child, known as the blue boy, in Bedroom 4, the ghost who wanders the corridors and the footsteps heard late at night, even when there are no guests staying at the Inn

The Investigation
We began the investigation by doing a filmed walkround of the entire building. During this walkround, we took lots of still photographs. We also took base temperature readings using both the digital thermometer and the laser thermometer, and base EMF readings throughout the entire building. We picked up several light anomalies on digital cameras during the walkround. The temperature varied greatly throughout the building and some areas were distinctly colder than others even though there is heating throughout. No unusual EMF readings were detected during this time. After our walkround, we gathered together to make our plan for the evening. Before we even began our vigils, one of our team members had exited a door in the reception area, another team member entered the doora few minutes later and in the middle of the doorway, just inside the door, was a bauble from the xmas tree. We were unable to verify an explanation for the bauble being there.

Restaurant
Temp – 14 degrees
Our first vigil took place in the restaurant. We decided to begin by using the communication board while our energy levels were still high. We have found in the past that using the board can be very draining and so we decided to use it at the start of the investigation.

After a very short time, we got movement on the board. The glass seemed to keep going to the letters A and P, but we could not get any sense out of the words being spelled out for us. When we tried asking yes/no questions the response seemed much clearer and this enabled us to get some information. Through many questions, it seemed that we were in communication with a young boy who was looking for his mother, he did not seem to be looking for help from us, but was happy to talk to us. The movement continued for a while and then stopped. Fairly quickly, the glass began to move again, although the movement was very different from our first communication. The glass was being moved in a more definite and stronger manner. Through another question and answer session, we determined that we were in communication with the boy’s mother. We asked her to tell us her son’s name and we got the letters DOUG. We have been unable to verify if anyone by this name is connected with the Coylet Inn. After a few minutes of questions, the movement seemed to stop. Again, it was not long before it started again. It seemed that the young boy was back with us. We asked if it would be possible to make the glass move quickly in a circular motion around the board. Before long the glass was spinning wildly around the board and eventually flew off the table.. At some points, some of the team could not keep their fingers on the glass as it was moving so fast. This was all captured on camcorder (click here to view video file) and it can clearly be seen that none of our team could have been controlling this movement.

While the communication was taking place, several members of the team heard loud banging noises coming from the floor above us. We can verify that the upper floor was entirely empty during this time. We ran voice recorders during this vigil and managed to capture some very clear voices. We had asked if the person communicating with us had been responsible for the banging noises we had heard and we got the response “It was me” (click here to listen). We also captured a voice saying “Domenic at the table” (click here to listen).

During this communication session, various members of the team seemed to be experiencing many unusual things. Three team members who were standing in one area watching the communication, all felt a cold blast go past them at exactly the same time. One team member felt something was tickling his head, while another felt his shirt being tugged. Several cold spots were detected and the temperature actually dropped about 3 degrees below our base line temperature. This we could not explain, especially since we would have expected the temperature to rise if anything during this time as the room had so many people in it. We also captured some light anomalies on still cameras during this time. We had also left a Trifield meter switched on in the restaurant area but no unusual readings were detected.

Bedroom 4
Temp – 12 degrees
The entire team headed for bedroom 4 for a vigil. This bedroom has had several reports of activity in the past, including unexplainable wet footprints that have been seen on the floor. We all got ourselves comfortable and began asking out for some communication. One of our team saw a greenish light outside in the corridor, but unfortunately this was not captured on camera. Several team members reported hearing loud bangs and also what seemed like a mumbled conversation going on nearby. We can verify that no other people were in the building at the time. Using voice recorders, we were able to pick up some responses to the questions we were asking. We captured a voice saying “Make the plan” (click here to listen) and another saying “We’re gonna get you” (click here to listen). We also caught some flashing lights on one our camcorders. We kept an EMF meter switched on during the entire vigil, but no unusual readings were detected and temperature readings remained unchanged. Several light anomalies (click here to view video file) and a bang (click here to view video file, speakers required) were picked up on a locked off camcorder in this area while we investigated another part of the building.

Bedroom 3
Temp – 13 degrees
The team split into two groups to cover the remaining bedrooms. The first team set up in bedroom 3 for a quiet vigil. The team asked out for communication but even though some banging noises were heard, it did not seem as though they were in response to the questions being asked. The temperature in the room fell during this vigil for no explainable reason.

Bedroom 1
Temp – 16 degrees
Meanwhile, the other half of the team set up in bedroom 2. The team asked out for some any presences to make themselves known but seemed to get very little response. Voices were picked up on the voice recorders during this time but seemed very distorted and were difficult to decipher. No unusual activity was picked up on the camcorders. The temperature seemed to stay quite steady and everyone felt quite comfortable in the room. No unusual experiences were felt during this vigil.

Solo Vigils

Bedroom 4 - Mark's Solo Vigil
Mark went to bedroom 4 to try again for another response. Using voice recorders, he managed to get audible responses to several questions. He had asked if the spirits enjoyed being there and got the response “Happy”. (click here to listen) At one point, Mark said “Let me know if you can hear me” and got the response “Yeah, we can hear you”. (click here to listen) It seemed that the communication was working well and so Mark asked if anyone there could tell him their age. He then got a voice saying “Seventy-one” (click here to listen). There was also a voice captured saying what sounds like “John bullies me”. (click here to listen).

Bedroom 3 – Nic's Solo Vigil
Nic went to bedroom 3 for his solo vigil. He tried communicating using voice recorders but was unable to get many clear responses. Although it seemed that there were voices being picked up by Nic's voice recorders in good timing with his questions, they appeared to be very distorted. No other unusual activity was recorded.

Bedroom 5 – Stewart's Solo Vigil
Stewart went to the children’s room, bedroom 5, for his solo vigil. During this vigil, he decided to try scrying using a mirror. He felt that he could see changes to his face during this, but as nothing was visible on the camcorder, we were unable to verify this. Stewart's vigil ended with no other unusual activity being picked up.

Bar Area
Temp – 21 degrees
While the solo vigils were taking place, the rest of the team did a vigil in the bar area. We tried using the communication board, but we did not manage to get much response on this. We also tried using voice recorders but again, got very little response. Some noises were picked up on the voice recorders, but there was a coal fire burning in the room and we cannot rule this out as the cause of the noises.

Dining Room
Temp – 14 degrees
As the communication board seemed to be working so well for us, we decided to continue using it to see if we could get any more response. Very quickly, we got movement on the board. Although the glass was being moved to different letters on the board, we were unable to make out any words or anything that made any sense. This then changed quite dramatically however, and we seemed to have made a connection with someone who knew Stewart. When asked if the person communicating with us could spell out their name, the glass moved around the board spelling out Stewart’s name. It then proceeded to spell out his surname. When asked to confirm how they knew Stewart, the glass moved to spell out the word ‘bastard’. At this point we asked the spirit to leave and quickly tried to move on and bring in someone else to talk to us. One of our other team members then was quite shocked to get a message from her father in law. She was able to verify the names and information coming through and knew that no-one participating in the board session could have known the answers to some of the questions she asked in order to verify the communication. Another of our team members also seemed to be getting a personal message coming through. This was very brief and we were unable to verify who the communication was coming from. After the personal messages were finished, we decided that it would be a good time to close down for the night and to end the investigation. This entire session was filmed using digital camcorders and we captured many light anomalies, some of which were very unusual shapes (click the following to view video files File 1- File 2 - File 3 - File 4- File 5). Several light anomalies were also captured on still digital cameras in this area. EMF readings and temperature readings remained constant.

Summary
The Coylet Inn seems to have more than it’s fair share of unexplainable activity. This investigation has provided us with one of our most successful communication board sessions to date. We managed to capture light anomalies on both still cameras and digital camcorders and also managed to capture many voice files during our investigation.

The Coylet Inn is a fantastic location that seems to have as many recent reported sightings as it does historic ones. We would love to return at some point in the future to carry out further investigation.

We would like to say thank you to the Laura and Karen at the Coylet Inn for all their assistance, warm welcome and excellent hospitality.
