Ghost Finders Paranormal Book Reviews
Monster! The A-Z of Zooform Phenomena
By Neil Arnold
“Zooform Phenomena are the most elusive, and least understood, mystery ‘animals’. Indeed, they are not animals at all, and are not even animate in the accepted terms of the word, but entities or apparitions which adopt, or seem to have (quasi) animal form.
These arcane and contentious entities have plagued cryptozoology – the study of unknown animals – since its inception, and tend to be dismissed by mainstream science as thoroughly unworthy of consideration. But they continue to be seen, and Jonathan Downes – the Director of the Centre for Fortean Zoology – who first coined the term in 1990, maintains that many zooforms result from a synergy of complex psychosocial and sociological issues, and suggests that to classify all such phenomena as ‘paranormal’ in origin is counterproductive, and for researchers to dismiss them out of hand is thoroughly unscientific.
Author and researcher Neil Arnold is to be commended for a groundbreaking piece of work, and has provided the world’s first alphabetical listing of zooforms from around the world.”
This is an excellent book which proves to be a very interesting read. Whether you choose to read it from cover to cover or use it as a reference guide, the information is easy to find due to the alphabetic structure and handy cross-referencing. From the more commonly known zooforms like the Mothman, Chupacabras and Werewolves to more obscure creatures like the Ukoy, a giant killer octopus from the Philippines and the Mafra Devil, an enormous winged entity which carried a trident, there is definitely something in here for everyone! The author has to be commended on the amount of research involved in writing such a comprehensive book.

The Airmen Who Would Not Die
By John G Fuller
“Stranger and even more compelling than his best-selling The Ghost of Flight 401, journalist John G Fuller turns his talents to the historic crash of the great British dirigible R101, the luxury lighter-than-air behemoth that was to revolutionise travel in the 1930’s.
The complex and absolutely spellbinding tale begins in 1928 when a monoplane carrying famed World War I ace Captain Raymond Hinchliffe and his co-pilot, the flamboyant heiress-actress Elsie Mackay, vanishes without a trace over the stormy Atlantic. As news of the disappearance makes front-page headlines around the world, British workers race to complete the largest and most advanced airship yet designed, the monumental R101. neither medium Eileen Garrett’s terrifying pre-vision of a dirigible tragedy, nor an even more fearful warning from the dead Captain Hinchliffe to another mystic, Mrs Earl, are held as grounds for delaying the much-publicized takeoff of the R101 for India. Finally in a séance that includes both women and the world-famous author Conan Doyle, Hinchliffe warns the navigator of the R101 of its various structural problems. Despite these warnings, the 777-foot R101 takes off on schedule – and plunges to the ground on the French side of the Channel, killing all but six of the fifty-four aboard. But the disaster does not mark the end of this mind-boggling tale. Two days later, through another séance, the commander of the ill-fated airship recounts in horrible detail the anguished end of the R101 and its crew. Bristling with suspense and astonishing evidence concerning the validity of psychic phenomena, The Airmen Who Would Not Die is a riveting account of a human tragedy and the superhuman events surrounding it.”
This book is an absolutely fascinating read from start to finish. John G Fuller demonstrates his remarkable ability to cover a story from every possible angle and the details found during the in-depth research would challenge the most-hardened sceptics. The author takes an objective stance from the very beginning and presents all the facts well to the reader. The book is a real page-turner and I would highly recommend it.

The Ghost of Flight 401
By John G Fuller
“In the dead of night in December 1972, Eastern Airlines jumbo jet flight 401 plunged into the Florida Everglades killing 101 passengers and crew. Months later, the ghosts of its pilot and flight engineer began to appear on sister ships carrying parts salvaged from the crash… At first, airline employees refused to talk – afraid of possible reprisals. But gradually, one after another, stewardesses, pilots and ground crews came forward to tell their part of one of the most astonishing stories in recent aviation history.
John Fuller’s book is a true-life suspense thriller. After a classic reconstruction of the mysterious crash itself, Fuller interviews scores of airline flight personnel and explores every facet of every ‘ghost’ report. A rigorous sceptic who has always written with professional thoroughness on all subjects he has undertaken, Fuller ultimately makes personal contact with the spirit of the dead flight engineer Don Repo. It is a spine-tingling, persuasive account with implications of spiritual realities that are of increasing interest in today’s world of ever more extraordinary scientific breakthroughs…”
This book is another fabulous read from John G Fuller. As with The Airmen Who Would Not Die, we are presented with an extremely objective view of the facts of this amazing case from every possible angle. Although the detailed description of the crash is at times harrowing, the details are important to the case. The sheer volume of witnesses to the paranormal phenomena that followed the crash and the common reluctance to share their stories for fear of reprisal from the airline company, demonstrate the intensity of this case. The reports of the communication with flight engineer Repo are astounding as they not only imply that there was direct communication but that the personality and sense of humour of Repo was very much unchanged after his death and was clearly demonstrated during these communciations. A highly recommended read, this book was extremely difficult to put down.

Spirit Orb Phenomena - Fact or Fiction?
By Anthony Kevan Sercombe
Ghosts have always fascinated humans if only because they have offered the possibility of finding out more about life on the other side. Spirit Orbs, though are less known, Anthony Kevan Sercombe’s “Spirit Orb Phenomena: Fact or Fiction?” is a pioneering work in this field and has been rated 93% at www.amazon.com. Put simply, spirit orbs are images of humans which can be captured with camera. The writer takes the trouble of sharing how easily spirit orbs can be easily confused with reflected light on camera and other natural anomalies, however it made clear that spirit orbs images are definitely different to some tricks of the light.
The many illustrations (98 colour photographs) offer, at least interesting if not compelling evidence of this phenomena. Readers will be able to judge for themselves what spirits orbs actually are. The author himself found spirit orbs appeared more as he wrote the book and looking at the illustrations one is struck by sheer personality which comes through in certain images. Perhaps the most appealing fact about this phenomena is that all it takes is a digital camera for anyone to possibly capture such intriguing images.
Anthony Kevan Sercombe’s book offers a fascinating introduction and explanations to a little known topic. Not only that, but readers will find it also provides a doorway into the mysterious world of the spiritual afterlife.
